The Project
The
Doli Project provides support to anyone who is affected by a forced
marriage. Caseworkers can provide culturally sensitive advice and
counselling. The service is strictly confidential.
The
project works alongside other service providers such as the
governments's Forced Marriage Unit, police forces, social services and
community organisations. If
we are not able to help you we will do our best to put you in touch
with someone who can.
If you are being forced into a marriage or if you wish to know more about the project, contact us on 0845 658 1057
between
9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively you can email us at:
What
is a forced
marriage?
In a
forced marriage one or both spouses do not consent to the marriage
or
consent is extracted under duress. Duress includes both physical and
emotional pressure.
A marriage should be entered
into with the free and full consent of both people. Forcing someone to
marry is a breach of their human rights and cannot be tolerated in any
religion or culture.
Victims may come under a great
deal of emotional pressure from their parents, siblings and the
extended family.
Forced marriage can involve criminal offences such as: violence,
abduction, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, rape, enforced pregnancy
and murder. For more information go to the resources page.
